ResumoThe βA4 amyloid protein is now understood to play a pivotal role in the development of Alzheimer's disease. This protein is generated by the abnormal processing of the amyloid protein precursor, a large membrane glycoprotein. Insights into the mechanisms of this abnormal processing will give information relevant to the design of new therapeutic strategies for Alzheimer's disease.
