Alveolar fluid accumulation and acute distress followed the injection of 40% diatrizoate (Hypaque) but cleared within hours. Lung scans and histological sections showed minor abnormalities thereafter. Barium sulfate produced less distress and no edema. Residual barium coincided with lung perfusion scan defects at two weeks, with less at six weeks.Article HistoryAccepted: Jan 1970Published in print: May 1970 FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByContrast Agent Use and Safety in Pediatric PatientsEvrimÖzmen, Sukru MehmetErturk25 August 2021The effect of aspirated barium sulfate, iodixanol, and diatrizoic acid on survival and lung injury in a lagomorph modelM.
