ResumoThe atmospheric parameters for the F-type supergiant star Canopus are obtained from spectrophotometry and Balmer line profile measurements to be Teff = 7350 ± 30 K, and log g = 1.80 ± 0.05. An absolute model atmosphere analysis of the equivalent widths published by Hearnshaw & Desikachary (1982) is carried out. The abundances are presented for 33 elements and all have an approximately solar abundance with the possible exception of nitrogen. Some tentative evidence is presented that nitrogen in Canopus may be five times more abundant than in the Sun. Depth-dependence of micro turbulence was looked for but not found.
