The Fifty-second Annual Meeting of the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association was held at the Disney Yacht and Beach Club in Orlando, Florida on November 10–12, 2005. The President was Irving L. Kron, MD (Charlottesville, VA). Officers elected for the coming year are as follows: President, Ross Ungerleider, MD (Portland, OR); President-Elect, Carolyn Reed, MD (Charleston, SC); and Vice President, W. Randolph Chitwood, Jr, MD (Greenville, NC). Also elected this year were Councillors, Kirk Kanter, MD (Atlanta, GA) and Joseph B. Zwischenberger, MD (Galveston, TX). Seiler, MD Resident Award was presented to Tara Karamlou, MD, for her paper and presentation entitled, “Use of a Miniaturized Circuit and an Asanguineous Prime Reduces Organ Dysfunction Following Infant Cardiopulmonary Bypass.”The Fifty-third Annual Meeting will be held at the Starr Pass Marriott in Tucson, Arizona on November 9–11, 2006.
