ResumoInitiation of RNA synthesis by Qβ replicase is inhibited by increasing the molar ratio of Qβ RNA to enzyme beyond about 1.5. In long‐term incubations the inhibition preferentially affects synthesis of plus strands and leads to an accumulation of single‐stranded minus strands. It is postulated that plus strands compete with minus strands for the same template site.
