ResumoSummary This paper gives a general account of the principal major nappes, fold and fault styles, and minor structural features of the Helvetic Nappes with particular emphasis on research results over the past few years. The principal stratigraphic variations are summarized and their influence on development of tectonic structures described. Measurements of strain variations throughout the nappe pile can be used to evaluate the significance of cleavage and linear fabrics. Pressure solution is a particularly important rock deformation process throughout the whole region and provides the source for the fibrous vein fillings which characterize much of this region.
