Transport and magnetic properties were investigated for a new class of misfit layer compounds (RES)xVS2 (RE = La, Ce, Nd, Sm) . (RES)xVS2 behave semiconducting or semimetallic, different from TaS2 or NbS2 analogues. An antiferromagnetic ordering occurs in (CeS)1.19VS2 with a metamagnetic transition at TN = 5.45 K, which is higher than in Tanor Nb-based Ce compounds.
