Resumo

An air-lift bioreactor was used for neomycin production by Streptomyces fradiae. The maximum neomycin concentration and viscosity were 1,176 mg/l and 49.8 cp, respectively. In order to improve the mixing characteristics of the culture broth, the mycelium was partially immobilized using cellulose beads by adding beads at a concentration of 0.75%, the maximum neomycin concentration was increased 1,600 mg/l while the viscosity was reduced to 37.3 cp.
