ResumoThe authors provide a comprehensive review of the psychiatric disturbances associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI) with the goals of demonstrating the link between psychiatry and TBI and highlighting gaps in TBI literature. It is known that more than 50% of people who sustain TBI develop psychiatric sequelae . Despite the high prevalence, extensive studies are lacking regarding risk factors, pathogenesis, and treatment of these disturbances. What is known and accepted however is that early diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disturbances are important, as they can improve rehabilitation outcome. An interdisciplinary, multipronged approach is necessary, with active participation of the patient, family members, physicians, and therapists.
