ResumoThe effect of stacking-fault energy on deformation twin thickness in Cu–Al alloys subjected to plastic deformation was investigated. Under the same deformation conditions, the deformation twin thickness in Cu–Al alloys decreases monotonically with a reduction in stacking-fault energy. For the same alloy, the twin thickness becomes smaller when the sample is deformed at higher strain rates and lower temperatures. The variation of twin thickness is analyzed in terms of nucleation and growth kinetics of twins during plastic deformation.
