ResumoThe major volatile trail-marking pheromone of the Texas leaf-cutting ant, Atta texana, was isolated, identified as methyl 4-methylpyrrole-2-carboxylate, and synthesized. The synthesized pheromone elicited strong trail-following responses from workers in the laboratory and the field.
