In the crystals of lithium tetrahydroborate, LiBH4, grown from ether solution at low temperatures, the polymeric [Li2(BH4)2]∞ ribbon structure contains a μ4 coordinated hydrogen atom; the crystal packing provides efficient shielding of the ribbon.
