ResumoThis article presents results of a research about the Escola Oficina ofParque D. Pedro. Critical theory of society guided the interpretations tounderstand the importance of education and its contradictions in contemporary capitalist society, which ‘create’ and holds minors in their conditions, and the main concepts related to this topic. To better understand the education of minors, a set of 10 laws about minors in the period 1927 and 2012 and researches related to school education of young people who abide social education measures of internment were searched. From this material, a framework was developed todiscuss the topic. It was observed that the tendency of the laws, confirmed by research, is to ensure to the ‘minors’ either social assistance measures or punishment. The Escola Oficina was created with the educational proposal to deal with the ‘minor issue’. It was a public school founded in 1985 for children who lived in the center of São Paulo. The Escola Oficina was designed and adapted forthose students, showing favorable results for minors to leave their status as minors. Some government attitudes dismantled and transferred the Escola Oficina to an institution of internment (FEBEM), marking the end of the project.
