Resumo

On the Swine Research Farm at the University of Illinois, an anaerobic digester with a 199 m3 reactor operates at a temperature of 35 C and with an average loading rate of 1.7 kgVS/m3/day. Average daily biogas production is 114 m3, consisting of 64% CH4 and 35% CO2. Total solids, volatile solids, and chemical oxygen demand of the swine manure can be reduced by 59%, 66%, and 73%, respectively, during digestion. The biogas is used to fuel a 25 kW engine generator to produce electricity for emergency circuits on the farm.
