Resumo

Jerry Maguire was one of the best romantic comedies of the 1990s. Tom Cruise starred as Jerry Maguire a successful sports agent, whose only client left was a second-rate football player Rod Tidewell played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. Tidewell wanted the big time and one of the most memorable scenes in the movie was when he kept demanding from Jerry to “show him the money.” Tidewell said over and over again to Jerry “Show me the money, show me the money.” That scene has stuck in my mind to this day with a slight deviation. Every time I am promotionally introduced to a new product, a new operation, a new method of treating patients, and as I wander through the exhibit halls and see the quantity of money and commodification that has taken place in medicine, I think of Tidewell and cry out “show me the evidence, please, show me the evidence.” It is this subject matter that I would like to expand with you today.
