Resumo

An analysis has been undertaken of the conditions for which Wilson's technique involving the steady Prandtl-Meyer expansion of shock-heated gases is applicable. Experimental evidence for the predicted flow regimes is described, including measurements of static pressure, stagnation point heat transfer, infrared emission and optical absorption. Work involving iodine recombination is mentioned briefly.
