Resumo

Abstract The EISCAT ionospheric modification facility (heater), together with the EISCAT UHF radar, lie within the viewing area of the newly constructed HF radar system, CUTLASS. Results are reported from the first experiments in which CUTLASS has been employed to observe artificial small scale field aligned plasma irregularities induced by the EISCAT heater. Observations include the first simultaneous CUTLASS-EISCAT UHF measurements of heating effects associated with heater induced field aligned irregularities, the first determination of the spatial distribution of these irregularities and the first examination of their motion.
