Resumo

The binary mass diffusion of methyl red in MBBA is measured by forced Rayleigh scattering. In the analysis, the background signal is found attributable to the incoherently scattered light, contrary to the prevailing assumption that it is the coherent one. Because of the homodyne detection, the resultant diffusion constant is smaller by a factor of two compared with the previous incorrectly analyzed results, although the anisotropy is almost the same, D || / D ⊥ =1.69.
