Resumo

The study by infrared spectroscopy of water in natrolite is facilitated by use of the partial deuteration technique. It consists in replacing only some protons by deuterium atom in order that the probability to have D2O molecules be very low. In this way we can show that water molecules in natrolite have the Cs, symmetry. This dissymmetry is a consequence of the fact that the two OH groups of the water molecule make hydrogen bonds of different strength. At last the suppression of coupling on partially douterated systems gives the possibility to treat each OH group as a functional group. This allowed us to make a direct estimate of OO distances within the OH…O hydrogen bonds.
