ResumoInner and outer multiple ionization of clusters by a superintense ultrashort laser pulse is studied. The barrier-suppression mechanism governs inner field ionization in this case, while impact ionization can be neglected. Outer ionization produces a static Coulomb field inside the ionized cluster. This field increases the charge multiplicity of the atomic ions produced inside the cluster approximately by a factor of 1.5. Various models are suggested for the charge distribution inside the cluster.
