ResumoSorption isotherms have been determined for five basic dyes on films prepared from an acrylic polymer. The results can be explained by an ion‐exchange mechanism over 80% of the concentration range, or by a simple ion‐distribution mechanism over the whole of the range. Addition of sodium ions reduces the dye uptake in accordance with the suggested mechanism. Isotherms of a dye mixture have shown that competition occurs, and the ‘ion selectivity’ constants calculated from these results agree well with those derived using the dyes singly.
