ResumoAbstract Many intermolecular complexes between N-acylamino acids and nucleotide bases have been found by means of X-ray powder diffractometry. Among these, the crystal structure of N-benzoylglycine cytosine complex monohydrate has been determined by the direct method. The crystal data are: a=18.71,b=7.11,c=18.37 Å, and β=144.0°. The space group is P21⁄c; Dobsd=1.37; Dcalcd=1.35 g/cm3. The final R factor was 0.131. In the crystal, a cytosinyl cation and a N-benzoylglycyl anion are joined by two NH···O hydrogen bonds, of which the shorter one is 2.652 Å long. Such a complex formation may exist in vivo.
