Resumo

Albumin is preserved at its original molecular weight in the skeleton of a mastodon from northern Venezuela. This mastodon skeleton contains no collagen, and thus could not be radiocarbon dated with existing procedures. The documentation of indigenous noncollagenous protein in fossil bone opens up the possibility of isotopic analysis of such specimens.
