ResumoThe quasi-mean resultant force has been proven to be useful on the real-time process control and tool monitoring in milling operations. This paper presents a new way to measure the quasi-mean resultant force using the vibrational displacement signal of spindle. The quasi-mean resultant force can be obtained by subtracting the spindle run-out pattern from the average displacement signal per tooth period, then multiplying a constant, k∗. This new approach is illustrated by computational simulations and experimental cutting tests.
