La sección tebana de la General estoria (GE) constituye una versión castellana de laHistoire ancienne jusqu'à César (HAC). La confrontación entre fuente y adaptación ponede manifiesto que, aunque sobre la base de una traducción literal, Alfonso recrea laobra francesa transformándola profundamente: un aspecto caracteriza la versión dela leyenda tebana alfonsí alejándola de la que se narra en la HAC y es que la GE acentúalos sentimientos de los personajes logrando construir un discurso coherente sobre labase de la emoción. La conclusión es que la GE reelabora su fuente desplegando unaactividad creadora, artística y literaria, que, a golpe de dotar de emoción sus escenasy de humanizar sus personajes, forja una leyenda tebana propia.The Theban section of the General estoria (GE) is a Castilian version of the Histoireancienne jusqu'à César (HAC). A comparison of source and adaptation shows that,although based on a literal translation, Alfonso recreates the French work,transforming it profoundly. An aspect that characterizes the Alfonsine version of thelegend, distancing it from what had been narrated in the HAC, is the accentuation inthe GE of the feelings of the characters, thus rendering possible a coherent literarydiscourse based on emotions. The conclusion is that the GE embellishes its sourceand, by granting emotion to its scenes and humanizing its characters, builds its ownlegend of Thebes.
