ResumoSummary On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Frederick Salmon, an English surgeon, little known in his lifetime, this presentation focuses attention on his books which, when originally written, promoted few manifestations of interest and concern, and calls attention to his enduring contribution to proctology—past, present and future—namely, the founding and development of an institution devoted to diseases of the rectum and colon—the St. Mark's Hospital.
