ResumoEighteen counselors at a children's diabetes camp examined 360 blood specimens using the Dextrostix/Dextrometer (DX/DM) and Chemstrip bG (CS) systems. Sixty-five percent of the DX/DM and 60% of the CS observations were within 20% of plasma glucose results determined with the glucose analyzer (P = 0.19). CS errors were underestimates below 150 mg/dl and overestimates above that level. DX/DM reading errors were almost exclusively underestimates.
