ResumoD URING 1945, there were 2,000,000 accidenta injuries and 16,000 deaths in American industries. Accident costs aIone were $600,000,000 and the tota cost to industry was three times that amount.12 It is smaI1 comfort that there were more workers injured in accidents outside industry. ObviousIy, accidenta injuries sustained in industry, therefore, are a probIem of great magnitude. The work done by the industria1 surgeons in caring for the injuries and directing the rehabihtation of the injured workmen is a matter of pride for the entire medica profession. Our purpose in writing this paper is to stress the importance of the principIes of pIastic surgery as an aid to the industria1 surgeon in this work.
