ResumoGlobal health received another philanthropic boost with the inauguration of the Instituto Carso de la Salud (Carso Health Institute), in Mexico City, by President Felipe Calderon on Sept 18. Funded by Carlos Slim, the institute is a not-for-profit organisation that will mobilise private resources to finance health projects. With a focus on Latin America, the institute will identify priorities and design initiatives to address them, select, train, and monitor partners to implement them, and evaluate results. The institute will, through its own research and development, join forces with other public and private initiatives, and fund other institutions.
