Resumo

It is necessary to think of a new development model that emphasizes the economic issues and also the social aspects and integration of human and nature. The community-based tourism is configured, beyond an alternative of employment and income, a promoter of sustainable development. Most of the community-based tourism is developed in traditional communities, hybrid communities and native communities in coastal and rural areas. In this context, arises the research question, if experience of community-based tourism applied in urban area, using an experiment in slums, could be configured as community-based tourism. The objective is to analyze the enterprise Favela Inn Hostel in Chapeu Mangueira, in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, under the principles of a design community-based tourism. For this, were utilized exploratory research, based on documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews to analyze the experience. Was found that the Favela Inn Hostel and the arrangements established by the practice of tourism benefits the community Chapeu Mangueira (RJ), in which the level of engagement and framework of the projects that make up the experience, fall under the principles of community tourism .
