Resumo

Corynebacterium species and taxa commonly known as coryneforms are rare and difficult-to-identify bacteria for many clinical microbiology laboratories. In this article, diseases attributed to these bacteria, current taxonomy, and methods used to characterize them in a hospital-type laboratory setting are reviewed, with recommendations of when it would be useful to do advanced characterization of isolates.
