Martial Arts: Techniques, Psychology, and Education

This paper addresses the sport aspect of Capoeira, in particular the "Competitive Games Capoeira", sponsored by the Federation of Capoeira of São Paulo and the Brazilian Association for Support and Development of the Arts-Capoeira, at the regional level. This analysis starts by a review of the literature and it is combined from a field study that included interviews with “mestres” of these institutions and the record in a field diary of a competition promoted by each of them. The results show the main features of the competitive structure of these championships, as well as some differences with regard to disclosure of results, and organization of key categories, awards, among others.
