Richard Sillitoe has produced another extremely valuable contribution that outlines the discovery history of 31 major base-and precious-metal deposits. It is part of a superb collection of volumes produced by the Society of Resource Geology that reviews circum-Pacific discoveries during the 1970–1995 (special issue 19), 1995–2000 (special issue 21) and 1998–2008 (special issue 22) periods. Together these volumes compile and analyze case histories of exploration and discovery for the principal base-and precious-metal deposits defined throughout the circum-Pacific region over the past 40 years. All three volumes are a must for those economic geologists with an interest in the process of ore deposit discovery. In this new text, concise geologic summaries are provided for all described deposits and include quality maps, sections, and photographs. Facts about the discovery history of single deposits are clearly presented in a way that is engaging to the reader. …
