ResumoAu/Cu core/shell nanoparticle assemblies on modified quartz or ITO slides are achieved through a biochemical reduction process, in which 1,4-dihydro-β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) performs the Au-catalyzed reduction of Cu2+ ions (see scheme). Such assemblies are ideal for the optical or electrochemical detection of NADH and NAD+-dependent biocatalytic processes, such as the analysis of ethanol.
