The reaction gives rise to enol ethers and enamines, respectively, which are useful synthetic intermediates in heterocyclic synthesis. Otherwise, they can be hydrolyzed to give α,α-disubstituted aldehydes. Supporting Information Detailed facts of importance to specialist readers are published as "Supporting Information".
