Resumo

The equations developed from the force analysis and the behavior of the FNS/FNc ratio in plunge grinding fit experimental data quite well, and the relationship of major variables is in agreement with the results of previous work. What is perhaps more important, straightforward extension of the equations for constant force plunge grinding leads to expressions for fixed feed grinding which are consistent with experimental data.In the latter case, one rather surprising result is that the ratio of the slopes of the FT and FN plots is equal to the coefficient of friction. The development of these expressions may provide a fresh approach to several problem areas. For example, it appears that this view of fixed feed grinding should be very useful in the evaluation of grinding aids.
