ResumoDuodenal mucosal diseases have not been a major diagnostic consideration during EGD other than the visual determination of peptic inflammation in the duodenal bulb. However, the case series by Hopper et al.1 in this issue of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy illustrates a higher-than-expected prevalence of Giardia lamblia discovered as a result of a policy of routine duodenal biopsies. Interestingly, this policy was the result of the investigator's expectation of a high prevalence of celiac disease in those patients presenting for upper endoscopy.
