ResumoA series of Eu2+ doped BaCa2MgSi2O8 phosphors were prepared by a conventional solid state reaction route. Intense blue emission with a maximum at ∼430 nm was observed under 254 nm UV light excitation. The oxidation state of Eu is confirmed by Eu-L3 edge XANES. The luminescence spectra of optimal phosphor Ba0.97Eu0.03Ca2MgSi2O8 (BCMSO) was compared with that of commercial blue phosphor BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ (BAM). The integrated emission intensity of BCMSO is higher than that of BAM under 254 nm excitation. White-light fluorescent lamps were fabricated using BCMSO and BAM as blue phosphors, respectively. The results indicate that the phosphor BCMSO may be suitable for application in tricolor lamps or other special fluorescent lamps.
