ResumoAshoka (268-239 a.C.) fue el tercer monarca de la dinastia Maurya. Sus edictos y las inscripciones grabadas en rocas o pilares ubicados en varias partes de su reino nos familiarizan no solamente con la personalidad de uno de los gobernantes mas importantes de la historia de la India, sino tambien con los acontecimientos de su reinado. Acaso el mas conocido de ellos sea su conversion al budismo. Promovio la labor misionera budista, que rebaso las fronteras extendiendose por otros paises, sobre todo por el sudeste asiatico. Ashoka (268-239 a. C.) was the third King of the Maurya dinasty. His edicts and the inscriptions engraved on the rocks or pilars placed in several parts of his reign show as not only the personality of one of the most important goberning in the Indian History, but also the events of his Kingdom. Perhaps the most known of them is his conversion to Budism: The prometed the budish missionary labor that crossed the frontiers to another countryes, overcoat througt the Asian south east.
