Complexes [M(C [[triple bond, length half m-dash]] C–C [[triple bond, length half m-dash]] N)](M = Ni, Pd, Pt) are prepared for the first time and the structure of [NEt][Ni(C [[triple bond, length half m-dash]] C–C [[triple bond, length half m-dash]] N)] is determined to have a square-planar geometry.
