ROUND heart disease (R.H.) in chickens has been reviewed and described in detail by Wilson and Siller (1954). Recent reports include those of Levine (1958) and Kilian et al. (1964). In 1962 Magwood and Bray reported a similar disease in turkey poults. Sautter et al. (1968) have described the clinical symptoms and the results of a detailed histopathological study of this disease. A preliminary report on the electrocardiogram and other physiological data was given by Jordan et al. (1968). In chickens the disease generally occurs when the birds are several months old. Marked degenerative changes occur in the myocardium primarily in the left ventricle (Wilson and Siller, 1954). In contrast the disease in turkey poults occurs during the first few weeks after hatching.
