ResumoREMOVAL of the chicken’s bursa prior to 5 weeks of age will reduce or eliminate the bird’s ability to produce circulating antibody, Glick et al. (1956), Chang et al. (1957), Glick (1960), and Mueller et al. (1960). Glick (1962a) reported that bursectomy did not significantly influence the antibody production of the White Pekin duck. This paper is a detailed report of the results of bursectomy experiments with the White Pekin duckling. Also, the influence of dipping eggs in alcohol solutions of testosterone propionate on gland weights, antibody response, and white blood cell counts of the hatched duckling will be presented. White Pekin ducklings were received from a commercial hatchery for trials 1 and 2. In trial 1, bursectomy was performed on 20 birds at 9 days and 20 birds at 16 days of age.
