Abstract Of thirty‐five reagents tested only cyanide rapidly catalyzes the formation of α‐pyridoin from picolinaldehyde in water. Visual observation of product precipitating offers a rapid and specific method of detecting cyanide at concentrations of 5 μg per ml or higher.
