ResumoMost language processors used with terminal systems have major restrictions in power and ease of use. The proliferation of custom-built conversational languages and compilers points to the lack of a terminal-oriented implementation of one of the major languages acceptable to a wide and varied class of users. The PL/I Checkout Compiler, released by IBM in November 1971 and developed at the Hursley Laboratories near Winchester, is intended to plug this gap. Working under the Time Sharing Option (TSO) of OS/360, it 1. Provides comprehensive facilities for dynamically debugging and correcting programs. 2. Implements the full PL/I language. 3. Is designed especially for ease of use at a terminal.
