ResumoThe present paper consists of three parts. In the first part a fast ion spectrometer is described. The second part of the paper is concerned with the results obtained by the new instrument. The third part deals with the following questions: (a) Is air ion mobility a discrete quantity or not? (b) How large mobilities can exist in atmospheric air near the ground? (c) Does there exist a relationship between mobility values? The results obtained by the experimental investigations have shown that the mobility of air ions seems to be quantized. As a rule, the breakpoints (mobility lines) of the voltage-current characteristics appear quite sharply, even under different air conditions. Interesting relationships between the observed mobilities have been found; they may give a picture of the decay of initial high mobility airborne ions. It is an interesting fact that mobilities as high as 11 cm2 V1 sec1 have been observed in atmospheric air at N.T.P.
