ResumoThe BSPS is an 18-item observer-rated scale designed to assess symptoms of social phobia. It consists of three subscales: fear, avoidance, and physiological arousal. Part I includes seven social situations that are rated for fear on a five-point scale ranging from 0 (none) to 4 (extreme = incapacitating and/or very painfully distressing) and avoidance on a five-point scale ranging from 0 (never—0%) to 4 (always—100%). In Part II, the respondent is asked to rate the severity of four physiological symptoms one might experience in a social situation on a five-point scale from 0 (none) to 4 (extreme = incapacitating and/or very painfully distressing).
