Resumo

Abstract The author has been concerned with the organic chemistry of sulfur for more than thirty years, during which he has written 272 original papers and 22 other scientific articles. These are summarized on the occasion of his retirement from Saitama University. I express my sincere gratitude to Professors Masamatsu Hoshino, Akihiko Ishii, and Yoshiaki Sugihara, who worked with me for many years. Without the cooperation of these excellent chemists, a number of papers cited in this article would not have come into the world. I thank my best friend Professor E. Clennan of the University of Wyoming, who read the entire manuscript for correction of the English and other mistakes, and Professor Adrian Schwan, the Editor of this Journal, who planned the publication of this special issue. Finally, my heartfelt gratitude goes to my wife Atsuko for the patience and understanding that allowed me to devote nearly forty years to chemistry research and education.
