Abstract Carboxylic esters, when refluxed in an aqueous suspension of Dowex-50, furnish the corresponding carboxylic acids in excellent yields. Tertiary ester and nitriles remain unaffected under this condition and β-keto esters undergo smooth decarboxylations.
