S ummary The anatomy of lignotubers of a eucalypt are examined and the distribution and amount of storage tissue discussed. The relative amounts of carbohydrates held in the lignotubers and adjacent root and stem are examined. It is concluded that the lignotuber is no more efficient than the root or stem as storage tissue, and that its prime function is probably related to the large number of buds it holds in a protected position.
