Resumo

Charles L. Schepens, MD, a physician-scientist giant of the 20th century, died on March 28, 2006, at the age of 94. Born in Mouscron, Belgium, he was the son of a general practitioner and the youngest of six children. Like Dr Schepens, his three brothers all became physicians. His father died when Dr Schepens was young, and his older brothers helped to raise him. As a result, he was exposed at an early age to outdoor physical activities with the Boy Scouts while at the same time demonstrating academic excellence.Figure
